God Is Our Friend

I came across this passage in the book of John yesterday. Jesus says, “Henceforth I call you not servants; for the servant knoweth not what his lord doeth: but I have called you friends; for all things that I have heard of my Father I have made known unto you.”

What a wonderful idea that Christ, the divine message from God to man ever-present in the human consciousness, is our friend. The Christ wants us to see and know all of God’s goodness. Therefore the Christ is always helping us, supporting us, and showing which way is right to go. I love the idea that God is not a secret or a mystery. And God does not want to be a secret or a mystery, which is why He revealed himself through Christ Jesus – to show us the way, the right way, and to reveal his true nature to us. God revealed Himself as Love, as our Father, through what Jesus taught us. And Jesus also showed us that it is not God’s will for us to be sick or sinful or to be punished. Jesus removed all of that suffering and even showed us that in following God we will have all of our practical needs taken care of (in the example of withdrawing money for the taxes from the fishes mouth, and in multiplying the loaves and fishes). We never have to worry when we are following God’s way and direction.

God is our friend; God loves us and cares for every need and desire we have. And Christ is our friend, always with us, and always imparting God’s sweet, precious will for us, which is outside of any limitation.

What a reason to rejoice and to feel safe and secure with our friend.
